It’s
a hard life, being a god of death. All those pleas, sobs and terrified screams. They haunt me every night I try to sleep.
I wake up and my hands are stained with blood, I’ll never be clean. Never. I don’t deserve anyone, I’m beneath
everyone. I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Duo, Duo Maxwell. I’m a hired assassin. Why do I do it? Money,
power, protection. This isn’t a nice time to live, entire country is a death trap. Mainly because of people like me.
I’m scum, but I know I am. Not like these people around me, putting on airs. I just sit quietly playing with the
end of my hair, the perfect disguise. Unfurl it and some make up and voila, an innocent girl scared to death of the “Bad
man” Other men may be disgusted at having feminine features, but they’re my best asset. Escape, run, live again.
No shame in running. I pride myself on having a clean record, no casualties only deaths. Not one person has escaped my bullets
or fists. They never will.
“New assignment Maxwell.” “I
just got back off one!” I groaned slamming the red file back on the desk, the last one had been the worse, so many people
tried to get in my way. I even had to do the “Wimpy girl” disguise to escape. I picked at the remnants of the
nail polish as my boss stared at me from behind the black desk. “Yes, but this is a long term assignment.” I
jerked my head up, “Long term? Who is it royalty?” “Indeed.” “Hey, no famous people, that’s
what my contract says. No famous people, bad press and police will track me down faster than I can run.” “Not
with this one, that’s why it’s long term.” I sighed inwardly, I hated long term assignments. Befriend
them, perhaps even romance them and kill them. It broke my heart last time, they were such a wonderful friend then I pulled
the gun out. I’ll never get his pleading and confused gaze on me as I pulled the trigger. “It pays quite a
lot,” “How much?” I asked and he passed a piece of paper over to me…..that was a lot of zero’s.
I whistled and he chuckled slightly. “Deal.” “I knew you’d come round.” He said pushing
the file over to me. I opened it and took out the photo. It was a lad, around my age, his hair was dark and spiked. He looked
young but those eyes, they were cold as ice and he seemed to look at me from the photo. “His name is Heero. Heero
Yuy.” “Not the Yuy royal family!” He nodded and I smacked myself on the head. The Yuy royal family
were in charge of this continent and were very powerful. This Heero was starting peace talks with other countries I remembered
him now. Intelligent, fast, there was no way I’d catch him. Steve laughed when I voiced my complaints. “Not
if he trusts you, from our sources he will like you, a lot.” He emphasised the last part and it didn’t take a
scientist to understand what he wanted me to do. “Well how am I gonna get in there?” “The assignment
is from another royal family. You are to be sent as an emissary form that family. From then on you will be ‘Prince Shinji
Romefeller’” “A prince??” I gasped aloud and started to bite my fingernails because my nerves were
acting up. “Fine, then. When do I start?” “Soon as possible, you will be sent tomorrow. Read this
file and remember the information. Learn it, learn it well. I doubt you and your photographic memory will be in trouble because
of a few facts eh?” I nodded and took the file. “Oh and go see Andrea, she has all your clothes in some
trunks. They will be sent to the castle and you will be picked up outside the city. By Grevnors Green. I believe you know
the place. Be there at nine am sharp.” I sighed and marched out of the door towards Andrea. She designed out outfits,
personas and ideals. She made us real, when we were playing someone we were not. As soon as I walked in some fancy clothes
were thrust at me and she ran back to try and coax the rest into a large trunk. I looked at the clothes in distaste and went
to complain. “What the hell-” “No, Duo you are wearing those clothes now help me with his!” She
yelled still trying to cram more clothes in. As she sat on it a loud click rang through the room and she smiled triumphant. “Ha!
Now, do not get filthy before tomorrow okay?” I walked out still holding the clothes and stepped into the dark alley.
Scratching noises were coming form all around me and I shivered thankful my apartment was only a few feet away. I almost ran
into it by the time I was there. Voices and screams were starting in my head again and I hastily grabbed some pills form a
cabinet on the wall. It was a small apartment, but I called it home and was proud of it. No matter what state it was in. At
the moment it was somewhere between bombsite and nuclear war, clothes and unidentifiable items of food littered the floor
and I could swear something was moving under my bed. Like I cared, I wouldn’t be here tomorrow, I though wistfully to
myself. I loved this little apartment, load of crap it was. I fell onto the bed and was instantly asleep, the blue eyed stranger
haunting my dreams.
Heero’s pov
I know what they all think of me. Me, a Yuy wanting peace. Disgusting,
my sexual preference doesn’t help. They keep thrusting that Relena at me, over and over. The obviousness of it all.
Look at them, not bothered about their citizens dying of starvation. Not caring about me at all. The only reason they speak
to me is to evaluate my flaws, my weak spots. Another assassination attempt will come soon. I can feel it. Do they think I
will not guess that this Shinji is an assassin. I know how he’ll try and get close to me too, stupid fool. This will
be interesting. My plan will work, let him come to me. Try his luck, when he fails I’ll get hi ton confess who sent
him. Then they’ll be sorry, sorry they ever messed with me. Heero Yuy, I will fight to the end. I will bring peace,
even if I have to kill everyone in this room to do it. Look at them dancing, dancing while their victims crawl as they are
too weak to anything. Savages, shallow people. Here’s Relena, do I want to dance? Yeah right, she seems upset with the
answer. Maybe I should add a few swear words. There, the look of anger and haughtiness that only a few people get to see.
She wants peace, everyone to be happy. She just wants a rich husband. Heir to the throne will do. Then she’ll just produce
babies till she dies. That’s an acceptable life to her. How many times do I have to tell her I don’t see her that
way? She’s not my type, no beard for a start. I feel like I’m drowning, all these voices are worming their way
into my head and it’s going fuzzy. I can’t, no…I won’t. Got to get out. Aah my bed, sleep. No, not
sleep. Drugged sleep, tortured sleep. Not sleep, unconsciousness.
“Really sir, is this needed.” “Yes
it is, no matter how good the boy is he cannot make this ice queen fall for him. We’ll just help him along,” Said
the pale haired man to his brother as he injected a light blue liquid into Heero’s arm. “And this will work?” “Love
potion as that dr called it. Ha, just mix a little of the person you want to them to fall in love with and poof. Instant attraction.” “And
Steve just got the hair without having to do anything?” “Apparently it’s very long. Braided-” The
pale haired man stared at him, “Not, not Duo Maxwell?” “You’ve heard of him?” “Best
there is! Wow no risks taking huh?” “No.” The two men looked at the sleeping Yuy as he groaned softly. “Staring
to work, he’ll just dream of him tonight, Heh.” “Er..Dream?” “Yes, dream.” The man
sniggered before undressing the boy and putting him under the covers as another moan escaped his lips. “What kind
of dream???” The man just raised an eyebrow and walked out quickly dragging the other man.
“Are you the one that is coming to me?” He whispered his voice suddenly sounding loud in the vast expanse of
fields around him. “Yes,” The stranger in blue and turn round, long chestnut hair glinting in the sun as it
blue across him in the wind. Heero gasped as he smiled, violet eyes sparkling. “You’re beautiful.” The
vision giggled and blushed, coming closer. He smiled again tapped him on the nose. “No I’m deadly,” The
smile was back again as he pulled the shocked boys lips to him pressing his tongue against those red lips. Heero closed his
eyes and parted his lips slightly. The boy pulled back after a few minutes. “You taste like vanilla,” He whispered
in his ear before gently tracing it with his tongue. He pulled back once again then pulled out a small pistol. Before Hero
could react the bullet was released and he woke sweating as it was about to him. He panted heavily and groaned. A trickle
of sweat ran down his nose and the face appeared in front of his eyes patting his nose again. It was so real he could feel
the long hair tickling his chest. He blinked and it was gone, leaving him alone in his bedroom. He pushed the covers off a
bit and suddenly sat up. Where were his clothes? He saw them and then padded out to the balcony. It was light but obviously
still early and he watched a s a carriage pulled up. A long brown plaited youth stepped out and grinned up at him. He nearly
fell off the balcony in shock, it was the boy from his dreams………………………………
“Must be him,” I though looking up at the balcony. It was definitely the boy from the picture, wearing nothing
but boxers….hmm, he’s keen, I thought to myself and waved at him. Funny, he looked like he about to topple off
that balcony. I though of calling out some Shakespeare but just laughed as his jaw hung on the floor. I looked down at the
clothes. Hmm, I did look good. If I do say so myself. These outfits aren’t so bad once you start wearing them.
“Master
Shinji? Master Shinji?” I whirled round, forgetting my name change I blinked then it sunk in he meant me. “Erm,
yes that’s me.” The guy was the typical scary butler, where he appeared from I have no clue but he suddenly
bowed and started talking to some servents. I tried to listen in. “Yes, across from Master Yuy’s room.” Wow,
swanky, Right across from mister Heero himself. I chuckled at the thought that he may even come out with not much on. I was
in the middle of my fantasising when that cold dread crept back into my body. I had to kill him, kill him and I was already….no.
Talk like that was what made you fail. Made you weak. Made you dead. I hastily plastered my trademark grin on and
waved at the approaching royals. “Hello, I am Heero’s father, Michi Yuy and Heero’s mother, Meinko.”
The pale woman nodded towards me. I suddenly has the feeling of a bug, trapped underneath a microscope. Nasty feelings began
to creep into me. Why did they introduce themselves as Heero’s something. Like they were possessions of him. Maybe golden
boy isn’t such a nice person. Then he walked out and all thoughts floated out of my mind. God he was gorgeous. Tall,
tanned, damn he put the clothes back on! I put all lewd thoughts out of my head and held out my hand. “Shinji, Shinji
Romefeller.” “Hmm…..” He took my hand and looked surprised as I pumped it up and down. He snatched
it back, even though from the muscles I saw it couldn’t have hurt. He was looking at me like he could see into my soul
with hose blue eyes and I didn’t like it. Not one bit. “Heero, why don’t you show our guest to his room.” “Oh
for goodness sake, stopped thrusting Relena at me so now you’re trying different gender.” He snapped sharply at
his Mother. I have to say my heart leapt at that slightly. I’ve always loved bad boys, emotionally hurt, disturbed.
I know, I’m one twisted kid. “Er, Relena?” I asked quietly as we were walking up the stairs. “Poncy
show-off, no brains gold-digger. They want us to be together so I can produce an heir but I hate her. Plus something’s
are missing, things that I happen to like.” “Missing…….oh.” I said as it sunk in. He stopped, “You
have a problem with that?” “No, bit hypocritical of me if I did.” He frowned slightly. “Hmm,
someone who didn’t leap away. With brains.” He extended his hand, “I’m Heero, Heero Yuy.” “D…..Shinji.
My friends call me Duo though.” “Duo?” My mind wandered as I though f a plausible explanation, “I
had a friend when I was younger and we were inseparable. They called us the duo. He moved away but my name kinda stuck. Only
good friends are allowed to call me Duo.” “Can I?” “Suppose, only cause I’m scared you’ll
execute me if I don’t let you.” He laughed again, “I wouldn’t.” “Then fine.” “Hmm,
Duo. Interesting. Well your room is across from mine, just don’t come in without knocking. It will be nice to have someone
my own age to hang with.” “Yeah, must be boring.” “At least you have all your brothers and sisters.” I
mentally checked the file, “Yeah, they a bunch of pains though.” “Hmm, I not sure why am I’m going
to ask this of you. Like I said Relena. Annoying as hell basically and there’s a ball tonight. Can I go with you? Please
I’d do anything to get her away from me.” “So basically you want to go with me, so she will leave you
alone.” “It’s sounds bad but, I want to go with you as well.” The sincerity of his voice shocked
me slightly. I’d hardly said three words to him and he was asking me out????Odd. “Okay then, I think maybe
I’ll go and get a nap before then.” I said opening my door. “Oh no……” “What?”
He asked. “I can’t dance.” He rolled his eyes. “You Don’t have to. Just stand round and
glare at Relena.” “I can do that,” I said smiling. He seemed to want to say something the decided against
it, he went into his room and I went into mine flopping on the bed. My braid smacked me in the face and I groaned, falling
asleep in an instant. When I woke I realised it muse be late and remembered the ball, I heard the shower across the hall from
me and I decided to o the same. As the water poured out of the shower head I decided to wash my hair. It took ages but when
I came out it was cleaner than it had been. I rifled through the trunks and found a suit and put it on smiling at myself in
the mirror. As I began the long and arduous process of drying my hair I looked in the mirror once again. When it was dry I
reached for the small bobble and stopped. If I had my hair out I could cause some real mischief. So I brushed it once again
and walked out of the room. Heero was waiting and my breath caught in my throat. Why does he have to be so…..hmmm, I
passed that from my mind and then smiled warmly. “You ready to dance your socks off?” He asked chuckling at
my astonished expression. “Only joking, by the way….I like the hair.” He blushed and started downstairs
as I tried tog et my feet working, this was odd.
What is going on with me? It’s all his fault, with his
long hair and violet eyes….Jeez! Help me, help me. I sound like a lovesick teenager. Why did I ask him, why???? And
why did he have to leave the hair out? It’s like that dream….God the dream. I’d forgotten it. He seems nice
enough. Bit too cheerful but hey, like I care.
I walked down the stairs and I was immediately met with noise. People were dancing yet again and I immediately saw Relena
making her way towards me. “Heero!” I groaned and turned to ask Duo something but instead was met with a
something falling on top of me and a lot of hair in my mouth. “Agh!” He tried to shove him off me but his hair
was tangled up in my cufflinks. I saw Relena making her way over and frowning at Duo. “Heero? Who’s this?”
She asked, trying to peer under the hair that was for now, hiding his identity, “I though girls weren’t your type?” “I’m
not….a……girl!” He said, producing the last word as the hair came undone and he shot up flicking it
back from his face, “Heero? Come dance.” I tried to say something anything to get her away from her but
my mouth was too dry. Luckily Duo saved the day. He grinned and wrapped his arms round my waist snuggling into my chest, “Sorry,
he’s mine,” He said cheekily grinning at her shocked face as she wandered off. He immediately pulled away brushed
his hair with his fingers. I brushed myself clean of the hairs that were stuck in my cufflinks. “Relena I presume?”
he asked smiling again. “Yeah, thanks I though I was a gonna.”” “And would dancing with her
make you die?” “No, but it would end up in her family asking me to marry her. The I’d die, but on the
inside.” I shook my head wondering why I was telling him this. “Hmm, well would you like to dance?” “I
can’t really, but oh well!” He said, a glint in his eye. He grabbed my hand and twirled me around, giggling all
the time. I couldn’t help but laugh, he started impersonating Relena’s dancing as the sing sped up and I was bent
over double laughing. “Now Ladies and Gentlemen, the Last waltz (A,N:/ Not actual waltz but wonderful song by the
rasmus that I love to death.) He slowed panting slightly. I stilled my nerves and took his hand pulling him closer until
his head was on my chest.
Make me blind Cover my eyes you can do what you want I’m paralysed by the perfect
mood When we’re dancing with blindfolds on
“I thought you couldn’t dance,” I whispered in
his ear. He lifted his head and smiled, “Never thought I could.” “You, I don’t really know what
to make of you. You aren’t like any other royal I’ve ever met.”
You make it easy to love you and
hate you I can’t explain it I feel insecure You say it’s simple “You die just to live again” You
say we’re waiting for the last waltz
“I’m different like that.”
Another you and me He
spun me round as the chorus kicked in. Another revolutionary heavenly romance His hair twirled round us, tickling my
cheeks as he wrapped his arms round my neck, sighing softly. Waiting for the last waltz And so it seems we won’t
find the solution Confusion leads the dance He stopped and looked up at me, his flushed cheeks were warm to the touch
and he blushed even more when I stroked it softly with my hand. I leant in slowly whilst a little voice in my head kept shouting
for me not to. My parents were here remember? But all I could see where his delicate lips in front of me. “I can‘t.”
He said slowly before turning and running out of the hall leaving me suddenly alone on the dance floor. We’re waiting
for the last waltz
“What is going on Trieze??? He should have kissed him.” “No, he shouldn’t
have.” They watched as the distraught Heero made his way out of the room after him. “Kisses always lead
to other things. He has been told to do these and kill him. But this would mean doing it when all the guests from the party
are still wandering around outside.” “Intelligent. What are we going to achieve by messing round in his affairs?” The
silver haired man asked before turning to his companion. “He will be dead. Lust, this is the only way to get close
to him. You know what an impressive fighter he is. He will be vulnerable.” “Well, what happens if Duo falls
for him?” “Duo knows not too. He knows I’ll kill him myself if he doesn’t do it anyway,”
He sipped his champagne and laughed, “Heero Yuy will be dead by the end of the week.”
“Oh dear, god no. This was not supposed to happen!” I tried to calm myself on my balcony overlooking the
gardens. Pale moonlight had turned everything blue and it was as if the world was mocking me in it doing so. Blue, why blue?
Why blue like his eyes? God I hurt him, I can’t do this anymore. “You hear me? I can’t do it. I can’t
kill him, I’d be betraying someone who likes me again.” “Oh silly boy, you really think he likes you?”
Where
did he go? Why, did he have to run off like that. He must be in his room but if he’s locked it…damn he has. “What?
He does.” “No, love potion. Simple enough to brew.” “No……..”
A love
potion, of course. Wait does that mean, I don’t really like him? Wow, strong potion.
“No, you wouldn’t
have.” “Sorry, but we weren’t taking any chances boy.” “Whatever I still won’t kill
him, I can’t. He wants peace for cryin out loud!” “Peace? Disgusting word. Now, you will do your job.” “No,
I won’t do it.”
Heero winced as he heard a fist connect with a head. Then another with a body. “Duo,
you will do this. Or I’ll call the royal guards now.”
Heero heard Duo stand. “You’re such
a pretty boy,” He froze. Screams and muffled shouting made his mind race.
Got to get in there, I have to.
Come on! Door move.
Come on Duo get away from him. He was leering over me and I raised a hand to grab and implement, “So,
pretty.” His hand started to creep up my arm and I trembled. This had happened before and it hadn’t been pleasant.
Those images ripped through my mind again and he cupped my head and pulled me in. I tried to struggle away but he was too
strong. I could feel his breath on my face. Then just as he was about to kiss me, the door swung open and Heero came running
in.
“Get off him!” He yelled running to punch the man, but he had already gone. I stared after him then
touched my cheek again. I tried to pull the robe around me again but he’d hit my arm and it was too painful. Slowly
Heero knelt beside me and picked me up cradling me in his arms. He must be strong, he lifted me as if I was a feather. I lolled
against his chest and listened to his heartbeat. It was faster than normal and I smiled, then the memory of the love potion
reared it’s ugly head and threaten to make me cry yet again. He laid me on the bed and sat on the side of it.
“I
know you aren’t a prince.” “What-” “I know you’re an assassin.” Busted. “And
I heard about the love potion,” “Okay, that wasn’t me, I swear I never-” He smiled, “I
know. Listen, I don’t know what you know about love potions. But-” “I know, it won’t end until
we……….” He nodded ad shifted a bit closer. “Listen, I can’t tell whether what I feel
for you, is just the potion.” He ran his fingers through my hair as I shifted, I wouldn’t be surprised if I had
been purring. I opened my eyes and saw his right above me. He tentatively leant forward and kissed me softly, god he tasted
exotic. Like sweet spices and honey rolled into one. I pulled him on top of me, deepening the kiss as he made short work of
our clothes.
When he pulled out of me I lay sated back on the pillows as he panted next to me. He closed his eyes
and I knew the potion was wearing off. Then I saw him turn to me, his eyes twinkling. “I knew it wasn’t the
potion.” He said kissing me again. “Oh thank god.” I muttered.
I woke looking across at the chestnut-haired beauty. Said hair was shielding his face and I tucked some of it behind his
ears. Slowly I stood and walked to the window thinking. “What’s wrong?” He asked suddenly sitting up. “Nothing.” He
frowned and walked over wrapping his arms round my waist. “Yeah, right. Now what is wrong?” “I’m
just not sure how others will react. I mean you aren’t royal they may not like it.” “You don’t
seem to be the kind of person who follows the rules.” “No, but they may force me to abdicate. Then I won’t
be able to work for peace anymore.” “You’d give that up for me?” I turned and smiled, “I’d
do anything,”
“Look I told you that this would not work Trieze,” “Almost did.” He
turned angrily to him and scuffed the floor, “Look, it didn’t work for many reasons. But we can still get rid
of Heero. Force him to abdicate and then he cannot do a single thing.” “Look, I cannot do this for much longer.
The stress of it all, everyone suspects something. Why could you not control yourself for five seconds? Must you always give
into your primitive urges?” Zechs frowned at him and dismissed him with a flick of his hand. “You do not
control me Zechs,” He hissed as he walked out of the room.
“So, what do you think your parents will say?”
I asked cautiously. It had been two weeks since that night. I was sat on the ground under one of the tree’s in the orchard.
Heero’s head was in my lap, absent-mindedly playing with my hair. “I don’t know,” He peered up
at me through my curtain of hair, “Or care.” “Much as I love it Heero, must you always undo my hair?
I quite like the braid,” “Yes and I love the loose hair, I know.” He sat up and pushed me in front of
him. He sat behind me and grabbed the discarded bobble. He pulled my hair back and tied it into a ponytail. “There,
compromise.” I laughed and leant back, listening to the steady heartbeat in his chest. “I want to be there,
when you do.” “I was going to ask. I was actually going to go now though,” I turned round and snuggled
up to him, “But I’m so comfy.” “Come on sleeping beauty, move it.” He shifted me off him
and I fell to the ground with a thump. Rubbing my bruised back I stood and solemnly followed him back to the castle. “Can
you ask my Mother and Father down here please?” He asked the Butler and I stood nervously behind him. There were many
ways this would go and they all ended badly. “What is it Heero?” Asked him mother walking down the stairs
in front of us. “I’d rather wait until Father gets here.” She frowned slightly and looked relieved
when he finally entered. “What is going on Heero?” “I have some, Erm. Well I think it is good news,
actually I think it’s wonderful but I do not think you will approve. Firstly, there is no Shinji Romefeller, this is
Duo Maxwell,” I waved shyly at their shocked faces, “He is a hired assassin, well was. He was hired to kill me.
But he doesn’t know exactly who it is. I have read his files and his job was to seduce and kill me.” “Oh
my, why is he still here?” Asked his Mother, her voice rising slightly. “Because he couldn’t do it, and
I love him. That is the main news.” “What? Look Heero, I am fine with you being…..” “Gay?”
I prompted. “Yes,” He stared at me and I reached out to grasp Heero’s hand and hid slightly behind him.
The man’s stare could melt diamonds. “But you cannot be with a commoner, or you will be forced to abdicate.” “But
why? I cannot live my life without him.” “You barely know him!” “No, I do. I know why he has
his hair so long, I know he hates having it loose, but does so to please me, I know so much Mother. I cannot lie to myself.
If it means giving up the throne then, I must do what I have to do. I only hope you will carry my message of peace.” “Heero,
if you leave……you will leave with nothing. I’m sorry.” “Like hell you are.” He said
striding out, I stood blinking for a few seconds then ran out after him. “Heero…Heero wait!” He stopped
ad turned round, “I ain’t giving up on peace. There are other ways other than being a Prince you know.” “Listen,
I have an idea of sorts.” “What?” “I know a guy, he’s part of a terrorist organization.
They’re the ones with the gundams.” “The giant robots?” “Yeah, anyway…A few months
back he asked if I wanted to join. To pilot one of them. I said no, but he said he’ll keep one or two in storage until
then.” “What do they stand for?” “Peace, unity. Look, he can explain much better than me. Their
base isn’t far from here.” “Sound’s like a plan.” “Yeah, you up for it?” “Course,
long as I’m with you.” I laughed and rubbed noses with him, “If I didn’t love you so much, I’d
say you were incredibly corny. As well as other things ending in -ny.” “And you are a nymphomaniac.” “Fair
dos.”
Have you ever slept under the stars? Yes, ever slept under them
with a sleeping Adonis by your side. Probably less hands shooting up there. That’s what he is though, in the day he’s
cold and icy but at night those melt away. I still don’t get why he gave that all up for me, I’m worried it may
be a ploy. To kill me, but….well, I don’t know. It won’t be long until we reach the base. Shouldn’t
be too hard to get in. Well, not for me, I don’t know about Heero. He is, confusing. To say the least.
“Come
on sleepy head get up.” I turned over and snuggled into the warm body next to me. “Just a few more minutes.” “No,
now.” He said stroking my cheek before getting up. I fell to the floor with a thump and he pulled me up. “Don’t
you want to sleep in a real bed.” “Oh yeah, think what we can do behind closed doors!” I joked picking
up my stuff. He smirked. “Yeah, just think….” He said before kissing me again. “Come on, base
this way.” “Didn’t you say that two days ago?” “Look these woods look exactly the same-”
Is said before smacking my head on something solid in front of me. “Huh?” I said before reaching out. “Something
there.” Blue sparks flickered from the place I’d hit and suddenly there was a gundam standing in front of us.
Well, over us. I think Heero nearly had a heart attack, either that or the attractive shade of red he had just turned was
because of the war, sunlight. “Hiyas! How are you there! You Duo?” It was God it had to be, but it was coming
out of the Gundam, it was rather high pitched as well. Hero was trembling uncontrollably behind me and it then struck me what
an amusing voice to come out of such a large robot. It dropped to it’s knees and the , what I assumed to be, cockpit
swung open. A blonde youth hopped out landing just in front of us. He smiled waved at us, definitely not what I expected.
This angelic boy was one of the terrorists blowing up things????? “Hi, I’m Quatre, you must be Duo!”
He said hugging me and Heero. Heero tensed up and stared at him. He grinned again. “Sorry bout that! The boss got
your message and told us to keep an eyes out for you, stealth fully.” He added. “We?” “Yeah,
me and Trowa, wait a sec,” He pulled out a walkie talkie, “Tro, found em. Yeah just track my signal.” He
smiled again as we heard the distant roar of engines. Another invisible object landed next to them and then another robot
appeared. The cockpit opened and a tall thin boy somersaulted out to land next to Quatre. He smirked again, “This
is Trowa Barton. Show off extraordinaire. Plus amazing acrobat.” “Are you complaining about my acrobatic skills,
cause last night you seemed to think they were rather useful!” He said, kissing the blonde. “Erm, guys!” They
broke apart quickly. “Firstly, TMI! Alright!” I shouted. Quatre frowned, “TMI?” “Too
much information.” Said Heero. “Oh.” “So Duo, you changed your mind?” “Well,
yeah. Plus got this dude to look after,” I said smiling and hugging him, “Heero Yuy,” “Not the
Prince Heero?!” Trowa said staring at me incredulously. “Well, not anymore. But we want peace. You guys are
working tot hat. We want to help. If a Russian acrobat and a weakling are all your fighting with then I think you need our
help.” I said scornfully. Quatre smiled and walked over to me, he bent and whispered in my ear: “I ain’t
a weakling.” He said before slamming his fist into my stomach. I doubled over. “Bloody hell!” I heard
Heero sniggering and he pulled me up. “Hey stop it, he’s just spoilt your chances tonight mate!” I said
wriggling away. “Of course Duo,” “Sorry to interrupt guys, but we could do with getting back to base.” “Of
course, erm…..how?” “You two can go in mine. I go with Trowa.” “I don’t know how-” “I
think I can.” Said Heero flatly. I stared at him, “What? You think with being a prince I never had to fly a robot
somewhere? Come on.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me into the cockpit. I sat on the chair and he sat on top of
me, fiddling with the controls. We were soon flying behind them and were on our way to the base.
A few months later
I guess I’d never figured Heero for the major mission type guy. He was amazing, better
than me even. Dr.J loved him, he was always running tests on him. One night I caught him at the computer just before I fell
asleep. “Heero? Come to bed.” I said sleepily. “I can’t J’s got another test to run on
me.” “What?” He sighed and stood over the computer shutting it off. He walked over to me on the bed
and sat next to me playing with my hair. “Listen I don’t want to worry you, so just get some sleep. It’s
nothing really.” He said before walking out the room. I sat up instantly worried. He was right though, I needed sleep
so I settled down trying to rid myself of the horrible scenario’s those few words had put in my head. The next day
I cornered Dr.J in his laboratory. “What’s wrong with Heero?” I asked. He looked up from the test-tubes
and shook his head. “I can’t tell you.” With one swift movement I had the scientist pressed up against
the wall my hand round his throat. “You WILL tell me or I’ll-” I said fiercely pulling back my hand which
was curled into a fist. “No, look….fine I’ll tell you. But put me down first!” He said wriggling
out of my grasp. I lowered him to the floor and he straightened his outfit then walked over to the test tubes again. “I
believe you know about the so called ‘Love potion’ used on Heero.” I nodded. “To work a hair
of yours was added correct?” “I don’t see where this is going but yes.” “Well, that potion
would’ve have worn off quickly. If the hair that had been used was a short one. Basically the less DNA, the quicker
the potion wears off.” “I see, but….” I started whilst playing with my braid. Then it hit me as
I looked at it. “Your hair, because it is so long. There was more DNA….” “So he’s….he’s
still under the potion?” “I’m not sure. That’s why I am running these tests. I noticed an abnormality
in some of his cells and I believe this potion is the cause.” “But, that means-” “Yes, it could
mean he is still infatuated with you because of the potion. Despite your hair length though it should have worn off a little
while ago. I’d be surprised if it had lasted this long Duo.” My insides felt like they were slowly being torn
out and I sat down on a nearby stool.
When Heero walked in that night I felt sick again, “Duo, there you are!”
He said coming over to me and planting a kiss on my cheek, “I know about the potion.” He froze and then
sat down next to me. “I-” “You should’ve told me Heero! Do you know how bad I feel? I could’ve
been with someone who didn’t really love me as much as I loved them. You might not even like me!” “Duo,
you know that’s silly. I love you.” “How do I know that?” He sighed and held my hand as we sat
in silence. I took my hand away and picked up some clothes that were scattered ion the floor. “I, I have to go think
for a while Heero. I’m sorry.” I said before going out into the night air.
To those who are reading this
diary, you know how I started this story. You know my past, I’m not proud of it. But here is where the story ends. I
would not feel right describing what will happen now.
Duo placed the pen down as he head Heero walk in the room. “Duo?
Wow.” He said, gesturing at the dinner table. The light flickered on his face and he smiled. “Let’s eat
Heero.” Heero frowned at his solemn tone but say down anyway. He stirred the soup and ate some slowly. “You
know what I was, before I met you…..whilst I met you.” “I know you were an assassin, a killer.” “Did
you know I never failed. Not once.” Heero frowned then stared at Duo’s bowl. It was untouched. “But
you love me.” “Do you love me?” “Yes!” He said stopping suddenly. “No you don’t.
It’s still the poison.” “You never had any of the potion, no poison runs in your veins.” “Exactly.” “Yet
you love me.” Duo stood, “No.” His eyes flickered to the clock on the wall. He picked up his long cloak
and a suitcase. “Where are you going? You can’t leave me.” Said Heero quietly, grabbing his hand. Duo
wrenched it free. “Yes I can, my job is done.” He said, before pushing Heero down. Heero stared up at him
before realisation dawned on him. He raised a hand but doubled over as a shooting pain ran through his stomach. Dup stood
calmly as Heero stared in disbelief before his eyes glazed over. Duo opened his communication device. “It’s
done.” He said before pushing Heero to the bottom of the stairs. He broke his arm and then closed the door behind him. He
was an assassin, a god of Death. And he never failed.
